Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology
Located at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; Opened 1989
About the Institute
As one of Dr. Beckman's alma maters, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was a clear choice for a location to support an Institute. Arnold and Mabel Beckman worked with Professor Ted Brown to plan this unique venture in multidisciplinary research. The Beckman Institute became a community of scholars and a physical space to foster collaboration, inspire bold scientific risk-taking, and nurture disruptive ideas. The Institute was founded to reduce barriers between traditional science and technology disciplines in order to yield research advances that otherwise would not occur.
