Beckman Foundation Announces High School Legacy Program Awardees
Six Orange County High Schoolers Receive College Scholarships Totaling $72,000
The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation announced today the selection of its 2023 class of Orange County Beckman Legacy Awardees. Six high school students were awarded for their excellent lab work after building a spectrophotometer and conducting an independent research project under the mentorship of their science teachers. This annual Orange County high school program supported by the Foundation honors Dr. Arnold O. Beckman’s legacy and his many inventions, including the spectrophotometer, while exemplifying the Foundation’s mission to support young scientists.
High schools from six school districts in Orange County, California were invited to participate in the third year of the program. The awarded students were selected after a competitive application process, which included a two-part, double-blind review by a panel of high school science teachers, college professors, and industry experts.
This year’s award is comprised of $72,000 in scholarships to support the following students:
First Place, $16,000 scholarship, each
Brookelyn Quan, Northwood High School
Deena Sun, Woodbridge High School
Second Place, $12,000 scholarship, each
Annabel Tiong, Northwood High School
Ryan Men, University High School
Third Place, $8,000 scholarship, each
Dylan Soong, University High School
Teresa Nguyen, Westminster High School

The Orange County Beckman Legacy Award culminates with the announcement of the 2023 cohort of awardees. Since its inception, the program supplied nearly two dozen local high school students with a total of $272,000 in college scholarships.
