Mr. Benjamin Fefferman

  • Award Recipient

Research Summary

Benjamin’s current research as a Beckman Scholar concerns the intersection between cancer biology, data science, and personalized medicine. Using methods from each of these fields, he has studied 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) as a possible biomarker for early detection and classification of cancer. In particular, he is interested in comparing genomic profiles of 5hmC from colorectal, head, and neck tissue between cancerous and noncancerous, and stromal and non-stromal cells to better understand the tissue, cell-type, and cancer-stage specificity for 5hmC profiles, while also using these profiles to better understand response to chemotherapy.
